Work Life
Other than coming to class and doing homework, a lot of my time is spent at work. I work at Planet Fitness in Lima. I had been a member there all throughout high school and eventually got to know a lot of the people that worked there. I have been working there for about a year now and I love it!
I have so many stories from working there, both good and bad that I feel like I could write a book about it at this point. I work at the front desk, so I do a lot of greeting members, answering phone calls, giving tours of the gym, handling complaints, helping people use equipment and cleaning machines. My job has helped me grow out of my comfort zone a lot in the past year. Throughout most of my life, I was extremely shy and introverted. Now I spend hours on end talking to all kinds of people. My favorite part of my job is the variety of people it has allowed me to meet. There isn’t really a specific kind of person that goes there, so I get to know people from all walks of life. I love being able to make people feel welcomed and comfortable in a gym, which can feel vulnerable for some people. My job has helped me have an idea of what I want my major to be. Communication is a huge thing, so that’s what I am leaning toward.
I also really love my co-workers, which I consider to be some of my best friends. Some of us have very little in common, but somehow it just works. The bonds I have formed with them are nothing compared to other jobs I have had. Being a commuter to Ohio Northern, I’ve struggled to meet friends on campus. It was very hard for me at first, but I feel like my co-workers have filled that void in my life. I spend a lot of time outside of work with them as well. I care about them all so very much!
I’m pretty much at work every single day, whether that’s to workout or work. My job takes up a lot of my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Hi Carrie, this was an interesting read and I'm glad that you're able to get out of your shell through your job. I found that it is the most unexpected things we do in life that always brings us out of our shells.
ReplyDeleteHi Carrie, I was thinking about work and my coworkers the other day. Ya being at college is fun at all but I really miss them. They are significantly older but that does not seem to matter at work. We talk like we are good friends to make the days pass faster. Besides my coworkers I also really miss the paycheck.
ReplyDeleteHi Carrie, that is awesome that you enjoy your work at Planet Fitness. I went it Planet Fitness a good bit of times throughout high school and enjoyed every time I went. Having good co-workers as well is so crucial in making your job worth while. Without fun co-workers, work can feel much more like a drag in your day.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you've found a nice group of friends with your job! Fitness centers always tend to be a really diverse place of people and lifestyles. Commuting sounds like to can be socially tough, but I'm glad to see your finding your place in the world with others.
ReplyDeleteMissing the best trainer in the 419 in the photo :/
