The Ohio Caverns

The Ohio Caverns is a hidden gem in West Liberty, Ohio. They offer guided tours down into one of the most colorful caverns in America. Visitors are encouraged to wear layers because the temperature underground stays 54 degrees all year round. Your guide will lead you down a long ramp into, through, and out of the passage.  There are two different tours, Natural Wonder and Historic, that you can choose from. The kinds of tours vary depending on the time of year you visit. All of them are equally as interesting and give you a new appreciation for the beauty of nature. The owners of the caverns take many precautions to ensure that the cavern is well-maintained for future generations.

I attended the Ohio Caverns for the first time in about ten years. My experience was much different as an adult than as a child. I appreciated the historical information the guides provided throughout the tour. I was more anxious this time around. Something about knowing that I couldn’t turn around once I got into the caverns freaked me out. The narrow pathways and now ceilings made me feel claustrophobic. However, the views were worth this temporary feeling. I enjoyed the gift shop equally as much. They had a variety of jewelry, crystals, and t-shirts. I try to buy a magnet from every place that I visit. They had a ton of options to choose from. I highly recommend taking a day trip!
